Tiny Talk

I've been talking about taking you to Tiny Talk (baby signing) for aggggges now and I've never gotten around to sorting it out. Well this week, I did. It's at Langley Children's Centre on a Friday afternoon and we went for our first session today. Michelle and Dylan joined us and both of you loved it.

I bought some materials to use at home and I'm already getting the hang of it. It's really good fun and I'm hoping it'll come in very useful.

Shell and I will be working on getting Jake and Abbie along next week so you can all learn together.

Dada and Dog

Last week, on my birthday (thank you for my cool new brolly by the way) you delighted your Daddy by saying Dada. He's been waiting and waiting for it, every time he sat with you saying it to you, you seemed to reply with MAMA. Much to my amusement... Dog (actually at the dogs) followed shortly after. Clever girl.

Tuesday 18 October 2011

Proud moment!

I've been really lax about writing the blog lately. Sorry petal. It's not like there's nothing to write either, you seem to do something new every day. We're in the process of moving house so I'll use that as my excuse and try my hardest to be more regular from now on. Let's see if I can do a recap...

You're a noisy little thing. Mumumumum and various others noises - shouts too. No Dadadadad yet but we're hopeful.

You sit nice and strong, have done from the start really. Rarely lose balance and fall sideways or backwards. You're not crawling (don't seem fussed on trying, would rather sit) but you LOVE to stand. Holding onto Granny, Daddy or me or the closest item of furniture. You don't pull yourself up yet but you experiment with letting go with one or both hands.

You really enjoy your food. You try anything, I don't think there's much you don't like. Fresh tomatoes make your eczema react, I think it's the juice being in direct contact with your skin. You're fine if its in bolognese or similar. You have toast and marmalade and some fruit for breakfast and then minced whatever we've eaten for lunch and dinner. Plenty of fruit and veg. You love raisins and sultanas. You also love cake, on the occasion we share it with you. Not really a surprise... Same goes for ice cream...

You've weaned yourself down to two milk feeds a day, when you wake and before bed. You sleep through now, 7.30-8 to 7.30-8.

You love being outside - walks in your baby carrier on my or Daddy's front or in your pushchair. You love the dogs and the chickens, it makes you giggle when they lick your ears. The dogs that is, not the chickens.

Today, I had my apt with the Mother and Baby clinic (I'm doing super well) and then we had a cuppa in Sainsburys. You had a bit of Granny and my Belgian bun and we tried you with a straw for the first time on the off chance. You chewed the straw first but got the hang of sucking really quickly and finished off the carton of innocent smoothie!! That's really quite advanced for eight months. Clever girl!

Sunday 4 September 2011

Your Christening

Sunday 4 September was the day of your Christening. The majority of our nearest and dearest joined us at St. Mary's, Hobs Moat at 2.30pm for a beautiful service by your lovely Granny. A few people couldn't attend: Auntie Rosie, Uncle Nick, India and Boo couldn't come as Uncle Nick had had an operation and needed the love and attention of his girls to make sure he got better quickly; Auntie Hannah and Uncle John were on a weekend away with friends; Suzie, Rob and Max were still getting used to one another (Max was only a few weeks old); and Michelle, Graeme and Dylan were in the wrong county too.

Lots of people did make it: Granny and Papa; Auntie Lora, Uncle Rhys, Daniel, Hannah and Adam; Nanna; Grandad and Great Gran; Uncle Rhys, Auntie Jo and Bump; Auntie Kerry and Uncle Mark; Auntie Laura and Uncle Nigel; Uncle Simon, Auntie Aisling and Conor; Rachel, Mark and Beth; Sally and Jake; Ally and Abbie; and Nicky and Hamish.

After the service, we gathered at Granny and Papa's for Afternoon Tea. Sandwiches and wraps, cupcakes and Christening cake. Yum! Uncle Rhys toasted you. You are very loved xxx

Sunday 21 August 2011

A day of firsts...

Technically yesterday as it's twenty past midnight...

Firstly, you and I were downstairs early this morning as you were wide awake and Daddy needed a lie in. As we sat in the living room, you started practicing new sounds: "mumumumumum" and "mamamamama". You've even seemed to use it to refer to me a few times. I actually couldn't be prouder. Do try and say Dada next.

Secondly, the teeth that have been niggling for the past few weeks/months (more so in the past few weeks) are finally breaking through the gum. It's the bottom two, definitely one but it might be both. Clever girl.

Friday 19 August 2011

Overwhelmed

I love you so very much. You're so beautiful and perfect, sometimes I can't quite believe you're here and you're ours. You're an intelligent and funny little soul, strong willed already with a fantastic smile that lights up your whole face.

Thursday 18 August 2011

Sitting

You have been sitting unaided for about a fortnight, I keep forgetting to post about it. Your balance isn't perfect yet but you're getting there. When you're not sitting, you're rolling over. Makes changing nappies interesting...

Forgotten post! Third immunisations

You're fully immunised! I forgot to post after you had them done. You were a good girl for the nurse, not very happy during but smiling at her before we left.

This set knocked you about, in hindsight I would have split them up I think. Poor little pickle.

Tuesday 2 August 2011

Food glorious food

You're enjoying fruit and vegetables (and you've even tried a rusk) but you're not terribly keen on anything mixed with rice just yet. We're combining purées and baby led weaning (finger foods).

Monday 25 July 2011

New game

Today, Daddy discovered that you now pull a covering off your face so an epic game of peekaboo commenced. Big smiles from you and from Daddy!

First ride on Daddy's shoulders

On Sunday

First tastes

A few weeks ago, you licked pieces of Granny's breakfast: peach, pear and plum. Last week, you tried nectarine and banana and you had proper mouthfuls of both. You gnawed away at the nectarine (we cut the skin off and cut grooves into it) for ages!!

You chewed the end off the banana, the look on your face was priceless.

Thursday 21 July 2011

Time goes so fast

I can't believe you're almost six months old (23 weeks tomorrow).

In the past few weeks, you've had some tastes of fruit - a few licks of peach, pear and nectarine when Granny was having breakfast and a nibble of a nectarine a few days ago (you were gnawing little chunks off it and chewing them!).

You're very close to sitting up and enjoy a bit of time sat in your bebepod. The door bouncer is also a favourite. You seem to love the dogs, reaching out to them when they run past.

No teeth yet but I think they're bothering you. You chew and rub things against your top gum as often as you can.

You love people and other babies.

We've got your Christening in the diary for 4 September. Granny will be doing the service for us.

You're a smiley little thing and so pretty, prone to the odd strop (you clearly know what you want). I'm very proud to be your mummy.

Tuesday 5 July 2011

Road to recovery

Today I saw a nice Doctor at the Mother and Baby unit about the PND. She was very kind, thinks it's likely to be an accumulation of things rather than one thing in particular but that anti-depressants are needed. She's prescribed me a variety that are perhaps less effective than others but are safer to take while breastfeeding. I've taken my first one already.

Hope to be a happier mummy soon xx

Monday 4 July 2011

First giggle

About ten minutes ago. Very, very proud of you my precious girl xx

Familial Similarities

Looking at old photos, maybe you're more like Mummy than we first thought...

And we also discovered you share more than just your eye colour with my Granny (your Granny's mummy):

Saturday 2 July 2011

Granny and Papa

We spend a lot of time with Granny and Papa, they love you very much

Hanging with your friends

With the NCT friends (minus Grace) at 19+5 weeks old

From left to right (youngest to oldest): Maddy, Beth, Abbie, Hamish, Jake, Dylan and Lola.

Sitting Up and Blowing Raspberries

You're starting to learn to sit up - not quite unaided yet but you're getting there! However, worryingly, you far prefer standing - fingers crossed you're not an early walker like I was.

You still enjoy a kick and you're loving your bouncy chair (especially now the kick pad works).

You can also grab the hanging toys when the mood takes you:

You experimented in Lola's jumperoo too, I'm not sure we'll get on as you also love your door bouncer, but it was good fun.

In the last few days, you've also started blowing raspberries. I'm torn between trying to curb it early and playing along! With Daddy enjoying it so much, I think you'll probably be doing it for a while yet.

Thursday 23 June 2011

18+6 week weigh in

This morning we went to Shirley Heath day centre to have you weighed.

5710g or 12lb 9oz - which the HV was very happy with xx

Monday 20 June 2011

New Trick

And this week's new trick is...

Grabbing your feet and putting them in your mouth :)

You started with the right foot and left knee but today you're grabbing both and you chatter away and grin while you do it.

Friday 17 June 2011

18 weeks old

In the past few weeks, you've been changing so rapidly.

You reach and grab for anything and everything: toys, hands, Mummy's hair, Granny's glasses. Most things go straight to your mouth. You love Jurgen.

Granny bought you a sheepskin rug this week. You love that too.

You're dribbling and chewing your hands so I'm fairly certain your teeth are on the move. Teetha sachets of teething granules and your amber anklet help. I try to only use Calpol as a last resort.

You seem to be growing (length and weight) steadily - I need to get you weighed. You've had quite a few hour long feeds recently so I assume you've been having your four month growth spurt.

Your hair is growing through and it's lighter in colour, the bit you wore away at the back of your head is growing back now. It's so soft.

Your eyes are still a lovely shade of blue, like my Granny's (my mum's mum).

You're such a pretty baby, people stop us to comment all the time.

Your hands are the same shape as Papa's but daintier. You've got his nail shape too.

You can roll from your front to your back (the first time you did it, a few weeks ago now, you rolled off our bed). You love tummy time and your back and neck are strong - and you can stick your bum in the air. You roll onto your side from your back but haven't made it all the way over yet.

You still love being stood up and enjoy the door bouncer now.

Today, you enjoyed your bath, kicking and splashing and grinning at me. Usually, you grumble so today was lovely :)

You love to have a kick after you've fed (except the last feed, you sleep after the last feed). You're active and alert most of the day, such an intelligent baby. You get overtired most days, so grumble to sleep during the day.

You love having moisturising cream massaged into you, I plan on taking you to a baby massage class.

You're a smiley little thing, I think we might have had a couple of little giggles but nothing super obvious as a laugh just yet.

You've found your feet; you can hold them but they haven't quite made it to your mouth yet.

You love your Daddy blowing raspberries on your tummy and you grin at him when he comes into view, especially when he's just come home from work.

You calm best lying tummy down along someone's arm being walked around. You can be soothed with a dummy but you'll soon tell us if it's not good enough.

You sleep best cuddled close in someone's arms, nestled into the crook of an arm and tummy flat against a torso.

You quite like sleeping on your side. At night, you sleep on your back in your grobag.

You might finally be growing out of 0-3 month clothes, although I think we may have a week or two yet.

When you're having a kick, I lean in close with my face level with yours and you reach and touch my face with both hands and grin at me and it's the best feeling in the world.

I love you very much, beautiful girl xxx

PND Update

Before our holiday to Spain, Daddy had booked me an apt with our GP, Dr O'Gorman for this week, Wednesday.

Daddy (and you) came with me. I explained again, through tears how I'd seen the locum and needed some support. Dr O'Gorman was very happy that I hadn't followed his advice to stop feeding you and that I'd come back. She is going to make a complaint about the locum I saw.

She was very kind and very thorough and has referred me to the mother and baby unit at the QE Hospital so I get the right support to come through this.

She made the referral that day and called me that afternoon to let me know it shouldn't be long before I heard from them, as she'd marked my case as urgent.

I love you very, very much precious. I'll try very hard to get back to normal for you xxx

Tuesday 14 June 2011

Swimming

We were supposed to go swimming on Monday. Auntie Lora was coming with us. I'd booked us onto a course with the NCT ladies and their babies. For some reason, presumably because you screamed in Spain and don't like baths, I was really panicky about going so made the decision to miss the session.

Daddy and I will take you this weekend instead x

Second Immunisations

Today, after seeing Auntie Rosie and her new kitten for lunch, we went to see Sister Cherry for your second set of jabs. You started crying in the waiting room and cried all the way through the injections. In the car, you were calm and smiley but after I changed your nappy, you were inconsolable again. Some Calpol and a mammoth feed and you're now asleep on me (you squeak whenever I try to put you down). Poor little poppet.

First Holiday Abroad (Tamariu)

On 4 June, we took a late night flight to Girona in Northern Spain to visit Tamariu for Auntie Hannah's wedding. We rented a villa with a pool and Nanna travelled from Bristol to join us for the week.

When we landed, it was raining and on the journey from the airport to the villa in our rental car, it was hard to tell we were in Spain and not Wales! The weather erred on the side of rain all week but we had a few nice mornings and afternoons.

On Monday, we spent time by the pool at the villa - you weren't a happy baby but the water was chilly so I'm hoping that was the reason. We bought you a little boat to put water in so the sun could warm it but when I went to dip your toes in, you put a foot on either side of the water - it made Daddy and Nanna giggle lots!

On Tuesday, we drove to Figueres to see the Dali Museum. You spent the afternoon in Daddy's arms, sometimes sleeping and sometimes watching the paintings.

On Wednesday, we went to Auntie Hannah's parents' villa to help with a few bits during the day and then to theirs in the evening for paella.

On Thursday, I wasn't having a very good day but we managed to get to Begur before Auntie Hannah's wedding rehearsal.

On Friday, it was Auntie Hannah's wedding day. Daddy got up early to get their wedding present while I fed you and then it was off to the hairdresser for me while Nanna watched you. Then, after we changed you into your party dress, we went to Auntie Hannah's parents' villa to get ready for the wedding. I got ready last so I could feed you as close to the wedding as possible but you still grumbled for Daddy during the ceremony. I flitted between feeds and duties throughout the day, suffice to say I was pretty tired by the time we got back to the villa around midnight. Lovely wedding though and you were fussed over throughout. When we got back to the villa, I went to get you out of your car seat and something ran over my hand. Fearing the worst (I'm not a spider fan), I jumped six foot before I realised you were sharing your seat with a gecko. A pretty little thing, he didn't want to get out - it took Daddy a while to release him!

On Saturday, we had to check out by 10am so we went down to the bay for breakfast (a burger in mine and Daddy's case). After saying goodbye to Auntie Hannah and Uncle John, we dropped Nanna at the airport for her flight and headed for Girona. After four or five hours wander, we went to St Felix for dinner and then back to the airport for our flight.

We arrived home (albeit stressed from an argument over excess baggage and a damaged car seat) in the early hours of Sunday morning.

PND

I decided when I started writing this blog that it would be an honest account of my experience through pregnancy and once you arrived. That is the sole reason I'm writing this post, I think it's important that you know my experiences and it'll probably help me to get over it and I WILL get over it.

Yesterday, I went to the Doctor because I'm feeling very low and at times, when you're particularly screamy, like I lose my grasp on control. It feels a bit like I'm pretending to be a good mum - I'm torn between thinking people are fooled when they tell me I'm a natural and thinking they're lying. Honestly, I've been feeling this way for a few months (it hasn't been this bad throughout, it's definitely worse now). Daddy has tried to help me a few times but I refused to acknowledge anything was wrong. I feel so ashamed, you're such a wonderful baby and I love you so much. I should be happy. I'm scared people will judge me. I'm scared they'll think I can't look after you and take you away from me.

Anyway, our Dr wasn't in yesterday so Auntie Lora came with me to see a locum. Unfortunately, it was a wasted journey. The Dr didn't speak very good English and was a bit deaf, which didn't help. I opened up and explained, it made me cry so Auntie Lora had to fill in the gaps. The Dr told me it was PND but couldn't help because I'm breastfeeding you, contrary to Auntie Lora's experience. He advised I fight it like I had been for two months and go back when I stopped feeding you.

I hadn't really thought about when I would stop breastfeeding you but since you've been here and since we spoke to Auntie Lora about weaning, I'd thought I might carry on until you could have whole milk (so around a year). The thought of two months feeling like this scares me but eight months?! I can't even bear to imagine that.

Needless to say, yesterday was not a good day. I left the surgery distraught and exhausted and today I'm shattered.

At least I have told my sisters and my mum now so I have some support and I told Auntie Kerry when I came home too. We're off to Spain for Auntie Hannah's wedding tonight so I'm going to try and have a relaxing time with Daddy, Nanna and of course, with you, my beautiful baby. I'll see our Dr when we're home if I'm feeling brave enough.

I love you more than I can possibly explain. I'm so sorry but I'll try my hardest to get through it and be the best mummy I can be.

Thursday 2 June 2011

First Holiday (Croyde Bay)

Last Thursday night, Daddy drove us to Croyde to see the sea. When we go to Croyde, we stay in a big house overlooking the Bay and it's really lovely. All of my side of the family were there; Daddy and Uncle Rhys left on Monday, Auntie Rosie and her family left on Tuesday and we travelled home with Granny and Papa on Thursday (our luggage travelled with Auntie Lora).

This was our view:

Here you are on Saunton Sands with Daddy:

And here you are just before a wander around Croyde Market on Tuesday:

Teething

I'm fairly confident you're in some discomfort from teething pain at the moment. Nanna tells me Daddy cut his first tooth at four months so maybe you'll take after him.

Nelsons Teetha sachets help though. And they're a natural remedy. Yay!

- Posted using BlogPress from my iPhone

Gastroenteritis

We (as a family) have had gastroenteritis. It started with Daddy and I and a day or so later, you got poorly too. It's been awful to see you in pain and discomfort but you've been sleeping in our bed to make up for it and to help you sleep.

You saw a Dr at the out of hours clinic on day one and our Dr a week later but other than lots of milk and some Calpol, there's nothing they or we can do. It made me sad.

It's a fortnight on and although the orangey sick only lasted a few days, your nappies are only just starting to return to normal and I think we've only recently lost the tummy cramps.

Poor baby.

Monday 16 May 2011

A day with the boys

On Saturday, I went to Auntie Hannah's hen night with Auntie Kerry so you spent the afternoon and the evening with Daddy and Uncle Mark.

I am told you enjoyed playing golf on the PS3...

On Sunday, after some lovely smiley cuddles with Auntie Hannah and her sister, Aimee, we went home via a Harvester. You spent time on all of us during dinner I think :)

You seem to love spending time with Auntie Kerry and Uncle Mark, which means so much to Daddy and I. They love you very much xx

NCT at Granny's

The Wednesday after your imms saw us hosting the NCT ladies at Granny's house. I packed up the car with your magic chair and playmat and most of your toys and off we went.

You had a kick while I made lemonade and Rachel took over answering the door when you needed a feed as people started to arrive.

We had a lovely afternoon!

First Immunisations

You had your first set of immunisations at 12+3 weeks old.

Our appointment was late afternoon and as Nanna decided on a last minute jaunt up the M5, she came with us. You were all smiles in the waiting room and grinned at Sister Cherry when we went through. It was two jabs, one in each thigh and, aside from a scream at each, you were wonderful.

That evening, you must have been feeling rubbish - you had some Calpol but you wouldn't go to anyone but me. You did sleep in your moses basket and were happy to be with Nanna the next morning - so long as noone put you down.

You weren't yourself for a few days but by the end of the week had returned to normal :)

Friday 6 May 2011

12 weeks old

I can't believe you're three months old! I'm sat in bed with my knees bent and you sat on my tummy, watching you grin and coo and stare obsessively at your feet. You've been grinning and babbling a while but you only found your feet in the last few days and only really to stare at, occasionally to hold.

You enjoy being able to see the world now, your legs are strong enough to hold you standing if someone supports you and I think we'll see you rolling over and sitting in no time. You spend a lot of the day chewing your hands, not sure if that's early teething or just finding your hands.

Daddy had a tattoo in your (and any subsequent babies') honour yesterday. It's not finished but it looks incredible anyway. It's a fu dog to protect his babies and peonies to represent our marriage.

You've got your first set of jabs on Monday xx

Sunday 1 May 2011

Immunisation Update

After our "six" week check, I booked you in for your first set of immunisations. The earliest appointment is 9 May at 4.30pm. You'll be 12.5 weeks old.

Meeting Conor

Yesterday, Uncle Simon and Auntie Aisling brought Conor up to see us and to meet you. Conor is about 17 months old so a lot bigger than you.

Conor was fascinated by you, kept pointing at you and saying BA (assume baby) - he even lay down with you when you had a kick on your gym.

We had a BBQ and you had lots of cuddles from Uncle Simon and Auntie Ais - Daddy and I had cuddles and playtime with Conor. We swapped babies!

Everyone had a lovely time and Uncle Simon thinks, from the constant chatter on the way home, that Conor is quite smitten with you.

"Six" week check

The day before you turned 11 weeks, we went to see Dr O'Gorman for our six week check. The HV came to see us the day before to weigh and measure you: you weighed in at 4440g (9lb 12.5oz) and measured 55cms in length (I thought it looked more like 56cms...). That's 10oz in three weeks, although you've had a sore throat this week so have been fussing during feeds so you might not have put much on that week.

Dr O'Gorman talked to me about my general health and wellbeing and gave you a thorough check up. She said your head control was superb and that you're perfectly in proportion. I was a very proud mummy, especially when you grinned and babbled at her :o)

All in all, we're doing absolutely fine.

Thursday 28 April 2011

Happy Easter!

We've had a long weekend for Easter - that means four Daddy days! He has been enjoying extra cuddles and smiles.

On Saturday, Daddy played rugby and it was very hot. You're not keen on the heat I don't think but you were a good girl. Grandad came to watch Daddy and see you.

On Easter Sunday, we went to Granny and Papa's house for lunch - Roast Lamb, yummy!

You had a few pressies, £5 from Jan and Malcolm who live next door to Nanna, a teething rattle from Granny and Papa and a blanket and knitted bunny from your Fairy Godmother, Auntie Kerry. You love your blanket:

Thursday 21 April 2011

10 weeks old

It's Good Friday (Granny will explain all about that when you're older) and you're 10 weeks old today.

Although you can't do it yourself, you like being sat up so you can see what's going on. Even better if whoever holding you has a wander at the same time.

You're a smiley baby and it's wonderful:

You've been sleeping from 10-7 for weeks now but last night you slept from 8-6.30 with a dream feed (a feed while you slept) at 11ish.

We saw the NCT ladies on Wednesday and you're so little compared to them - there's a month between you and the next baby up who was there this week. You're probably about the same size as Grace, who is two weeks older than you.

Daddy is off work today and Monday for Easter and then again next Friday and Monday for the Royal Wedding and May Day Bank Holiday. It's nice to have so much time with him.

Saturday 16 April 2011

Immunisations

At 9 weeks old, I should have posted something about your first set of jabs by now. You were booked in last Tuesday but you weren't yourself on Monday so I cancelled the appointment.

I will book you in for them but when I feel you're in the best place to cope with them. So long as you're up to date when you're four months old, you'll be fine.

Love you poppet xx

Meet the Godparents...

My beautiful baby, I think it's high time I announced your Godparents. Traditionally for a baby girl, you have three Godparents: two Godmothers and a Godfather.

I think Daddy and I asked Auntie Kerry and Uncle Mark before I had my first scan when I was pregnant with you. They are very close to Daddy and I and will be just as close to you, I'm sure. They were over the moon to be asked and love you very much indeed.

For your second Godmother, we asked my oldest friend and your Auntie Laura. I've known Auntie Laura since we were about two years old and I think it's a testament to our friendship that we're still close now. She was honoured to be asked and is very excited to be your Godmother.

Obviously, you don't just have the support of your Godparents. Your Granny, Papa, Aunties, Uncles and Cousins; your Nanna, Grandad and Uncle Rhys and Auntie Jo; and Daddy and my other close friends, Auntie Hannah and Uncle Simon in particular. I'm sure all of them would ask me to tell you that they love you very much and are here for you to lean on if you need them.

It goes without saying that Daddy and I are here for whatever you need, whenever you need it too. We love you very much xxx

Friday 15 April 2011

Talking

You love to spend time on your back kicking and grinning and talking to me (or anyone else who talks to you).

I love it. You try and copy the noises we make.

Precious little one.

Daddy's Birthday

Wednesday was Daddy's birthday and he had the afternoon off work so he could see a man about a tattoo and spend some time with his girls.

All your cousins were at Granny and Papa's so we had birthday tea with the birthday cake you and I baked from one of the cook books you bought me for Mother's Day.

It's made from courgettes! It's okay though, it still tasted nice.

You bought Daddy the new Foo Fighters album and he loved it.

Auntie Laura and Uncle Nigel's Wedding: 9 April 2011

Another wedding!

You came to the church service and were beautifully behaved but a little confused to be able to hear Granny but not see her! Littles weren't allowed at the reception so you stayed with Auntie Rosie. I had expressed milk for you in the week leading up to the wedding so you didn't go hungry or scream her house down. Thank goodness I took a breast pump to relieve my poor breasts at the reception; you needed the extra 6oz before we got home almost as much as I needed the relief - Auntie Rosie had to come and get it!

The wedding was really lovely and Auntie Laura looked absolutely stunning. I missed you terribly though so we didn't stay very late. The next wedding is in May, for two of Daddy's uni friends and then we're off to sunny Spain for Auntie Hannah's wedding to Uncle John.

Tuesday 12 April 2011

Oops!

On Thursday 7 April, I had an apt for my 'six' week check with Dr O'Gorman. I thought it was at 1.05. It was at 11.05 so I missed it. We've got to wait a fortnight now because Dr O'Gorman is away.

Silly mummy.

Wednesday 6 April 2011

Health Visitor: 6 April

This morning we rushed around (well, you mostly lay around) to get out and see the ladies from NCT at lunchtime. We met in Druckers and then you and I had a wander around the shops with Nicky and Hamish.

This afternoon, we had to be home for the Health Visitor - she wanted to weigh and measure you before our six week check tomorrow. Yes, we're having our six week check the day before you turn eight weeks old...

You're weighing 9lb 2.5oz and are 54cms long (you were born 52cms long) Your head circumference is 39cms (it was 35.5cms at birth). We need to go to the clinic to have you weighed again next Thursday morning cos you're a little bit down on the centile you were born at. Nothing to worry about though :)

You smile and kick and wave your arms. You hold onto fingers and our clothes, sometimes you hold your dummy in your mouth (you have a dummy to help you sleep sometimes). You enjoy your baby gym and your bouncer. You're so strong, you have great head control (have done almost since birth) and will even stand if we told you under your arms. You recognise me and Daddy. You're not very keen on baths...

You have some cradle cap but I'm trying to get rid of it for you. I think your hair might be curly. Your eyes are still blue.

Love you Maddy xxxx

Monday 4 April 2011

Happy Mother's Day

Yesterday was my first Mother's Day and you and Daddy spoilt me.

On Saturday, Auntie Kerry and Uncle Mark delivered Granny's cupcakes and I had some from you too! Yummy!

You had a big cuddle with Auntie Kerry and then we went with Granny and Papa for a walk in the Clent Hills and then for lunch, which turned out to be almost dinner.

On Sunday, we watched TV in bed with crumpets (you had milk) and then Daddy gave me cards and presents. I had a card and a silver yummy mummy mojo (charm) from Daddy and a card and two cookery books from you; one so I can make low fat cakes and one so I can copy Nigella and make yummy feasts.

We went for lunch at the Handmade Burger Company and then to Granny's to wish her Happy Mother's Day.

Thank you poppet, I love you xx

Meeting Beth

Last Friday night, we had dinner at Rachel and Mark's. I made pudding, gingerbread upside down cake with creme fraiche. Rachel made a leek tart and it was scrummy!

You and their daughter Beth are two weeks apart - she's two weeks older than you. You managed to coincide some alert time and we introduced you.

We managed to chat until 1am and even then we had to cut conversation short to leave! Typical that you chose Friday night to go 9hrs between feeds eh? We spent half of that time nattering!

Smiles

You recognise and smile at me and Daddy now, it's the most wonderful feeling.

You're a smiley little thing and we love you very much xx

Uncle Rhys and Auntie Jo's wedding

On Friday 25 March, we went to see Uncle Rhys marry Auntie Jo. It was a beautiful sunny Spring day and you wore a pretty dress with matching knickers over your nappy. You were excellent during the service, you had a few grumbles but no big crying and you enjoyed the hymns - at least, they sent you to sleep. You even let the photographer take some photos of you.

Other than some crying for food and again when you got over tired, you were a little angel at the hotel. Sleeping for hours and hours in the evening while you were fussed over and passed from relative to relative for cuddles.

Six weeks old

You're definitely smiling in response to us or other people or external stimuli now. It's beautiful to watch. I think you recognise us too.

You're growing - noticeably in length.

Your eyes vary from pale blue to grey to steel blue. I can't wait to see what they settle on.

You've started finding your tongue so you play about with it and click at us. We're also getting gurgles and noises now too :)

You like no nappy time and quite happily kick away when you're on your back.

You're loving your whoozit that Auntie Lora gave you and the magic bouncer that Auntie Kerry bought you.
